VELMA BARNES BISHOP
GAFFNEY, SOUTH CAROLINA.…Velma Barnes Bishop, a resident of Gaffney, South Carolina, went to her Heavenly Home, June 26, 2020. She was 76.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the Solid Rock Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi, with Pastor Bill Talbert and Pastor Jerome Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at the Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home, 1830 Cherry Street Vicksburg, Mississippi. Local arrangements are being handled by Wright Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask for contributions to be made in Mrs. Bishop’s name, to the Solid Rock Church – Vicksburg, Mississippi, 4945 US-61, Vicksburg, Mississippi 39183.
Velma was born in Port Gibson, Mississippi and lived most of her life in Delta, Louisiana. She had moved to Eufaula in 2001 and then to Gaffney, South Carolina in 2018. She enjoyed working in the church ministry where her late husband was a Penocostal minister. She also loved her fur babies, Prissy, Bella, and Little Bit.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph “JC” Barnes and Robert Bishop; her father, Dwight O. Glodjo; her mother, Myrtle Glodjo; her sister, Louise Wedgeman; and her son, Joseph Eugene Barnes.
Leaving to cherish are her daughters, Kimberly W. Barlow (Mark) of Gaffney, South Carolina, and Martha Deaton of Dothan, Alabama; her grandchildren, Ashton Walker, Chiana Walker, Kieye Walker, Seth Walker, Joshua Walker, Brittany Morales (Julio), Delana Irwin, and Glen Deaton; her great-grandchild, Kalel; her sisters, Loreine Lowery, Virgie Nevels, Barbara Cain, Linda Brown, and Joann Pfannestial.
Serving as active pallbearers will be James Horn, Jim Horn, Julio Morales, Mark Barlow, Zachery Hughes, and Roger Arnold.
