MIDLAND CITY, AL… Johnny Mack Burgess, a resident of Midland City, Alabama, passed away Saturday night, May 6, 2023, at his home. He was 80.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Reverend Michael Proffitt officiating. Burial will follow in Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory, prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in Charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Burgess was born in the Sylvan Grove Community of Dale County, Alabama to the late Irby M. Burgess and Ruth Mercer Burgess. He lived his entire life in the Sylvan Grove Community except for a short time in which he was furthering his education for his career in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an avionics director at Ft. Rucker, for several years, during which he worked with Cobras, Apache, and Blackhawk helicopters. He was a Mason in the former Midland City Lodge. He was a member of the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church.
Leaving to cherish his memories is his wife of sixty years, Carolyn P. Burgess; his daughter, Melissa Ellisor (David); his son, Dr. John Burgess (Jakie); his brother, William M. “Bill” Burgess (Shirley); his grandchildren, Jennifer Ellisor, Brittany Ellisor, Renee Ginn (Nick), Abby Morgan (Jake), Alex Burgess (Hallie), Anna Kate Keeble (Adam), Avary Claire Burgess, Rudy Goodwin, and Alex Goodwin; his great-grandchildren, DaviRae Ginn, Brooks Ginn, Addison Keeble, Aiden Keeble, and Aria Keeble; one great-granddaughter on the way, Millie Carol Ginn; his nieces, TaJauna Jimmerson (Alan) and Cassandra Carter (Don); and his special fur-baby, “Maggie”.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Paul Brinson, Nick Ginn, Alex Burgess, Rudy Goodwin, Adam Keeble, and Jake Morgan.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Enfinger, Lomax Kelley, William M. “Bill” Burgess, Gary Austin and Ronnie Taylor.
