Jane Morris Hicks

ABBEVILLE, AL…, Jane Morris Hicks, a resident of Abbeville, Alabama, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2023, at her home. She was 74.

       Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday July 24, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory with Reverend Tim McCraney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

        The family has asked for no flowers, but for contributions to be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 310 Dothan Road Abbeville, Alabama 36310 or Alzheimer's Association,225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

       Jane Morris Hicks was born in Dothan, Alabama to the late Oney A. Morris and Verlon Ward Morris. She was a graduate of Dothan High School, Class of 1966. She attended Samford University in Birmingham and obtained her master's degree from Troy State University in Elementary Education. Mrs. Hicks taught first grade elementary school for over 30 years. She taught two years in Pensacola, Florida before moving back to Alabama. She start teaching First Grade at Abbeville Elementary School in 1971. She was also Assistant Principal for Abbeville Elementary. After retiring from teaching in Abbeville, she became a reading specialist and teacher in Fort Gaines, Georgia. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved the beach and being outdoors.

        Surviving relatives include her husband, Ronnie Hicks; two sons, Rawley Hicks (Caleigh) and Randon Hicks (Anna); grandchildren, Lillian Hicks, Laken Hicks, Anna Collins Hicks, Addison Hicks, Reece Hicks; sister Lesley Heidecker (Keith); several other loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

       The family would like to thank their Calvary Baptist Church Family, caregiver Lakeisha Stephens, Ruth Lawrence, Rebecca Murray, the citizens of Abbeville and many others who have helped during this time.
