JAMES WALLY HOWERTON
SCREAMER COMMUNITY of ABBEVILLE, AL.…James Wally Howerton, a resident of the Screamer Community of Abbeville, AL, passed away Saturday morning, August 15, 2020, at his home, after a courageous battle of cancer. He was 48.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in the Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. A eulogy will be given by Jason Selva. Burial will follow in the Howerton Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday evening, August 17, 2020, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Screamer Volunteer Fire Department, 7642 County Road 97, Abbeville, Alabama 36310.
Mr. Howerton was born in Laredo, Texas to the late Walter Britt Howerton and Catherine Ida Hartzog Howerton. He moved to the Screamer Community of Abbeville, Alabama at a very young age and lived there his entire life. He was a 1989 graduate of Abbeville High School. He received an associates degree in electrical from Sparks (Wallace Community College Sparks Campus) in Eufaula, Alabama. Wally was very active in his community, where he joined the Screamer Volunteer Fire Department at the age of sixteen. He was currently serving as the Fire Chief for the department. He was also elected to the Henry County Commissioner District 3 seat in November 2018. Wally was known for being a person who would give you the shirt off his back and never expect anything for it.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his wife, Teresa Ann Howerton; his daughters, Brittany Howerton and Madison Howerton, all of the Screamer Community; his sister, Ida Faye Ward (Doug) of Abbeville; his extended family, Matthew Walker (Alaura), Shawn Hatfield (Tammy), Jason Selva (Dawn), Robby Culp, Huey Jones (Rena), Calvin Jacobs, Samuel Jacobs, and Jackie Thomas (Vicky).
Serving as active pallbearers will be Matthew Walker, Jason Selva, Shawn Hatfield, Jason Hudspeth, Chuck Barrentine and Rob Brown. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Screamer Volunteer Fire Department.
The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for their loyal and compassionate care shown to Wally and their family during this time.
