Ms. Rackston was born in Henry County, Alabama, to the late Fred McHellon and Elease Mathis McHellon. She graduated valedictorian of the Class of 1959 from Headland Northside High School in Headland, Alabama where she served as class secretary. She had previously lived in Cocoa, Florida before moving back home, to Headland, Alabama, forty-eight years ago. She was a loving and supportive mother, devoted daughter and sister, a caring and embracing neighbor, dedicated and passionate church member. Her embracing heart and loving spirit led her to serve as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout leader. Before retiring she worked as a housekeeper and devoted caregiver. As a selfless servant, she embraced additional community service opportunities to bless others with her encouraging demeanor. She was a member of the Concerned Citizens of Headland, Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (GSMBC)- Ladies Aide and usher board, GSMBC custodian as well as Vice-President of Headland Progressive Women Club and Wiregrass Federation of Women Club, Inc. She enjoyed opportunities to fellowship with family and friends over her many delicious desserts and a good card game.
Although she is missed, we rejoice and take comfort in knowing she is resting with her Heavenly Father and the angels.
Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother, James Robert McHellon.
Leaving to cherish her memories are her children, Alicia Rackston and Frederick J. Rackston (Karen); her sisters, Wyleen Wood, Willie Dean Judson, Dealer Underwood, and Janice McHellon; her brother, Tommie McHellon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
