GEORGETOWN, GA… David Paul Colwell, a resident of Georgetown, Georgia, passed away Friday night, March 14, 2025, at his home. He was 80.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M. Central Daylight Time Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

The service will be livestreamed on Wright Funeral Home & Crematory’s Facebook page, for anyone who is not available to attend in person.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions be made to Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 821 Alpharetta, GA 30009, or www.angelsrescue.org.

Mr. Colwell was born in Portland, Oregon to the late Dayle Alexander Colwell and Florence Nelly Cantrell. Most of his childhood was spent in Walla Walla, Washington and other parts of Eastern Washington as well as part of Southern California. He married Donna N. Brock of Puyallup, WA on September 8, 1962. The family lived in Lakewood, WA where Mr. Colwell worked as a master painter. He joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons in the late 70’s. The Federal Penitentiary on McNeil Island in Washington closed in 1981, resulting a long career that took the family all across the United States, including Bloomburg, NY, Long Beach, CA, Terrel, TX, Jonesboro, GA, Hopatcong, NJ, Petersburg, VA, Canon City, CO, Coal Creek, CO, Ball Ground, GA, and finally Georgetown, GA. He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a facility manager, making his home in his beloved mountains of Cotopaxi, CO.

Mr. Colwell lived life on his own terms. He was the definition of a true American with a wide range of lifestyles from a Hippie to Law Enforcement. He took pride in his association with the Tacoma Outsider’s Motorcycle Club. He loved his animals.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Nadine Brook Colwell; his son, Richard Colwell; and his sister, Constance Colwell.

Leaving to cherish his memories is his daughter, Tammy Brewer (Danny); his son, James Colwell (Tammy); his sister, Sylvia Douglas; his brother, Kenneth Colwell; his grandchildren, Brandy Stone, Alanna Jenkins, Jason Decker (Jana), Rachel Gordon (Charles), Russell Decker (Teresa), Nicole Brookshire (Chris), Hunter Colwell, and Dustin Colwell; and his seventeen great-grandchildren.
