Mrs. York was born in the Screamer Community of Henry County, Alabama, to the late Herbert Condrey and Nora Lee Kirkland Condrey. Her parents named her “Christine” which means, follower of Christ. She was a 1961 graduate of Headland High School where she played in the band and was offered a scholarship in music, which she turned down to marry the love of her life, Alton York. She also spent time in Echo, Alabama on her farm and enjoyed horseback riding. Her heart’s desire was to serve the Lord, as her daughter says, she was a song bird for the Lord her entire life. She was a talented musician, begining violin lessons at the age of sixty-two and went on to serve as 2nd violinist in the Dothan Community Orchestra. She also served in her church in many choirs, leading a ladies ensemble, and teaching many children’s classes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church – Headland and attended Mt. Pizgah Baptist Church near Echo, Alabama.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Sarah Condrey, Sally Allen; her brother Ed Kirkland; and her twin sister, Imogene Matthews
Leaving to cherish her memories are her husband, Alton York; her daughter, Sharon York LaMarre (David); her brothers, Kenneth Condrey and Sam Condrey; her grandsons, Scott LaMarre (Claudia) and Jason LaMarre (Kelli); her great-grandchildren, Dawson Headley LaMarre, Kaden LaMarre, Anna Grace LaMarre, Gage Taylor, Kinsley LaMarre, and Thomas Giambra.
